The Sphere Project, the full title of which is ‘Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response’, has two main sections. The Humanitarian Charter is a summary of three of the main legal frameworks within which humanitarian practitioners often have to work in times of disaster or conflict. These are:
- International Humanitarian Law (the Geneva Convention)
- Refugee Law
- Human Rights Law
As well as a range of cross-cutting and emerging issues, the Minimum Standards then suggest standards and details for each of the four technical sectors as outlined below:
- Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Promotion
- Food Security and Nutrition
- Shelter, Settlement and Non-Food Items
- Health Action
- Sphere Project Summary
