Conduct

As discussed earlier in this topic, you will not be required to actually conduct an exercise as part of your assignment. Although you may decide to do so later!

Activity 5.7

See if you can remember any of the exercises you have participated in, either as a member of the control staff or as a participant, and recall any lessons that you learnt from them in relation to the way in which they were conducted.

  • Were the aim and objectives of the exercises met?
  • Was exercise control efficient?
  • Were administrative arrangements handled well?
  • Were all players familiar with their role?
  • Were adequate communications provided?
  • Was anything learnt from the exercise?
  • Did participants perform well or badly?
  • Were lessons learnt acted upon after the exercise?

It is a good idea to record any thoughts on these questions where you can access them later. Some of these thoughts may be quite useful when reviewing your own draft exercise instructions and preparing your assignment.

Most of these questions (with the exception of the last one, which is related to exercise validation) are similar to those that should be asked during an exercise debrief. This is the next exercise management activity we will consider.
