Topic 1: Introduction to standard operating procedures, training and exercises

Overview

This topic will introduce the material within this subject and provide an explanation of this subject’s relationship to the other emergency management planning subjects you have already completed. It should take you approximately eight hours to complete.

We will start with a quick revision of some of the concepts and principles of Emergency Management that you studied in EMG100 Introduction to Emergency Management.

We will then examine how Risk Assessment/Hazard Analysis and Planning, Standard Operating Procedures, Training and Exercises fit within the emergency prevention and preparedness model. At the same time we will conduct a quick revision of Risk Assessment/Hazard Analysis and Planning.

Spend some time thoroughly reading the Subject Outline - particularly that part which relates to assessment and Assignments 1 and 2. Also give yourself some time to browse through the remaining topics of this Study Guide, and generally to get organised and focussed on the tasks required within the subject.
