Management style

Another consideration is how appropriate the structure of an organisation is to facilitate its management style. By style I mean is it an autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, or paternalistic/matriarchal organisation?

The definition I use for each of these is:

autocratic

no choice of action or latitude once a direction has been given;

democratic

actions are the agreed choice of the people;

laissez-faire

people should feel free to do what they want;

paternalistic/matriarchal

the rule of a benevolent dictator.

Assignment Activity 10.8

learning portfolio activity

Your community's emergency management structure

Up until now we have mostly been considering various options and concepts regarding internal structures. What you now need to do is to identify the emergency management structure that exists in your community.

In most countries there are arrangements in place so that when an emergency occurs organisations can be activated quickly and everyone knows that someone is in charge and looking after the welfare of the community.

I would like you to identify the management structure for emergency management that exists in your community. This will be essential for the completion of your assignment.

Your explanation of the emergency management structure should be clear and concise. Consider including organisational charts/ diagrams of the emergency management structure that exists in your community and is relevant to your emergency management plan. If need be, explain the structure and management responsibilities within it.
