Improving community awareness - some examples
- If you wish to raise the general awareness of community hazards or applicable emergency management, an appropriate method is to educate school students. They will often then pass the information on to family and friends. The best forms of information for this purpose are: a brief verbal presentation on the area to a group of school students; a video showing what may happen and what is being done about it; some simple brochures that can be explained and distributed.
- If you wish people to take specific action for specific events then you could: prepare and distribute very simple action cards (for example, a card with a fridge magnet attached); and periodically advertise the appropriate actions on television or radio, or in a newspaper.
