Topic 5: Prevention or mitigation actions
Overview
During this Topic you will be introduced to the concept of prevention/mitigation, and discuss the range of prevention/mitigation strategies which can be considered to a variety of both natural hazards and those that result from human activity (man-made).
You will then be asked to use this knowledge to detail and analyse the mitigation/prevention actions that were in place and whether or not they were or were not taken before the onset of your selected emergency/disaster.
Learning outcomes
After completing the work on this Topic you should be able to:
- explain the concept of prevention/mitigation;
- describe and provide examples of mitigation/prevention strategies;
- describe the mitigation/prevention strategies that were in place before your selected event occurred;
- list those mitigation/prevention actions that should have been taken but were not.
