Topic 8: Command and control

Overview

During this topic you will be asked to identify and examine the command and control structures that would be put into place in the event of a disaster/emergency impacting upon your community.

You will then be able to use this knowledge to identify and describe the command and control structures that were put into place in the disaster/emergency event you have chosen to study in this subject.

All through the Topic you will be given guidelines on your major report (Assignment 2) work related to this topic. Activities in the topic are designed to provide a base of information against which your assignment work can be constructed.

Learning outcomes

After completing the work for this topic, you should be able to:

• identify the Command and Control structures that could be implemented in response to a disaster/emergency event;
• describe the Command and Control structures that were implemented in response to the disaster/emergency event you have chosen to study for this subject;
• discuss the effectiveness of the Command and Control structures initiated within the impact phase of your selected disaster/emergency event.
