Principles of emergency management-a revision

Let us first look back briefly at some of the key issues we covered during Introduction to Emergency Management. Essentially what we will do is revise the first subject. Firstly, let us look at the nature of emergencies/disasters.

Reviewing emergency management

Take a moment to consider the terms emergency and disaster. Can you recall a working definition for these terms?

A disaster/emergency (from and emergency services perspective)

We talked about the nature of emergencies in terms of their effects on the community, property and the environment in EMG100.

Take a moment to consider the Framework for Emergency Management.

What are the four major functions/skills of a manager?

An emergency manager uses the four management functions above to effectively undertake a variety of emergency management related tasks relevant to four specific areas of emergency management.

Take a few minutes to review these four areas of emergency management from your EMG100 study materials.
