Topic 10: Vulnerability & Resilience
Overview
In Topic 10: Vulnerability and Resilience, we examine poverty, land use, and population expansion. Your tasks in this Topic closely follow Chapter 9 of your McEntire text book. There are two case studies: the North Wales (Towyn) Floods of 1990 and for an Australian dimension we look at Tropical Cyclone Larry which struck Queensland in 2006.
Learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic you should have a working knowledge for facilitating recovery in relation to:
- facilitating individual and public assistance
- anticipating conflict in the recovery process
- making a case for increasing Emergency Management resources
- assessing various approaches to evaluating vulnerability, as well as
- developing your ability to write about and support your opinion with reference to case studies and relevant literature
