Topic 9: The psychosocial dimensions of recovery and the Emergency Manager
Overview
Insight into the different concerns of disaster victims is vital in planning for the recovery process. So is the acknowledgement of the personal concerns of a disaster manager in the midst of the recovery process.
During Topic 9 you are required to study in depth two articles and critically reflect on the issues presented. The issues pertain to the current debate regarding how to approach psychosocial trauma, both that of the victims and that of the disaster managers themselves. It may be wise to re-read each article at least once before entering your Forum activities. Please don't feel bound by the specificities of the Forum questions, they are guidelines provided to help you begin your critical reflection. Chances are you have already given this topic some thought.
