Topic conclusion

Summary

'Without communications all I command is my desk'

Montgomery

Montgomery's quote is as relevant to emergency management as it is to military management. Without communications we cannot hope to respond adequately to emergency events. Having a better understanding of the factors (both technological and human) that may affect communications prior to and during an emergency/disaster, will assist in the preparation and planning process. It will also allow us to more efficiently and effectively utilise the available communication resources (both human and material) that are such a vital component of our emergency management capability.

You should now be able to carry out your assignment requirements for this topic and detail the specific communications systems, organisations and problems associated with them in the pre-impact phase of your selected emergency/disaster.

Assignment Activity 3.11

What you need to do now is review all the information from the various activities and related analyses of your selected event that you have gathered and sort through it using your assignment guidelines and the marking criteria. Ensure that the information you have addresses the assignment requirements and is within the event parameters set by you. Draft your communications section analysis for the final report (Assignment 2).
