Preparation of a training block syllabus

Let’s now take a quick look at how we can prepare a block syllabus. You will see that this is really a simple process of sequencing our training objectives in a logical way. Let’s apply this process to the training objective hierarchy we developed during Section 3 earlier.

Reading 14: Extracts from Australian emergency manual: Training management, Chapter 7 paragraph 7.11 and Annex A.

A sample block syllabus for this training situation is shown below. You will note that a number of the instructional objectives are grouped into one period or topic. This would, of course, have to be supported by your time required considerations in Step 4. I have taken periods to be around 40 minutes in duration; this is an acceptable average.
